ANC Youth League leader Julius Malema told Eyewitness News the party will lay a complaint with the IEC about claims that Congress of the People (Cope) members were caught destroying election posters.

Malema said the ANC in Gauteng had pictures of Cope members tearing down the ruling party?s boards, calling the incident as an act of desperation.

It was alleged a teacher from a Midrand primary school was also involved.

Malema said Cope must stop being politically intolerant and run a respectful campaign.

"This political intolerance is uncalled for. We have evidence of what we are talking about. Both the presidential candidate and the president, [Mosiuoa] Lekota, wherever they have been, there was removal of posters of ANC by their people," he said.

Cope's Sipho Ngwema refuted the allegations.

"They claim to have evidence. They must show us the evidence. Our presidential candidate was there. He would never allow our people to do that because we were there with the media and the media saw us doing our work," he explained.
