A KwaZulu-Natal woman had to be airlifted to hospital after a taxi crashed into her car on Tuesday morning, a spokesperson for private ambulance service Netcare 911 said.

Spokesperson Chris Botha said the accident happened on Nandi Drive near Umhlanga Rocks, north of Durban, shortly after 8am when the taxi crashed into the side of her VW Golf.

Four of the taxi's passengers were also injured and after being treated on the scene were transferred to hospitals in the area for follow up care.
