A 32-year-old man was arrested on Thursday for allegedly robbing
Somalians and selling a stolen car in Tsakane, south-east of
Johannesburg, police said.
The man and his two alleged accomplices had offered to sell a
Somalian an Isuzu double cab bakkie, which they had allegedly
hijacked, for R55 000, Captain Petros Mabuza said.
On Thursday the three took the vehicle to the Somalians, who had brought the cash to buy it.
The trio allegedly held them up at gunpoint, took their money
and fled in another Isuzu bakkie belonging to the foreigners. One
of them was arrested. The other two were still at large with the
money and the stolen vehicle.
The arrested man was linked to eight other car hijackings —
three in Springs, another three in Heidelberg, one in Pretoria and
another in Brits.
He would appear in the Brakpan Magistrate's Court on Monday to
face charges of armed robbery and car theft.
