Sex crimes accused Cezanne Visser is confident that an email sent to the National Prosecuting Authority and Eyewitness News was written by her former lover and co-accused Dirk Prinsloo.
In the email, Prinsloo, or someone pretending to be him, said he wanted to return to South Africa under certain conditions.
Prinsloo apparently wants to meet with acting prosecutions boss Mokotedi Mpshe to work out a deal.
The mail goes on to say that Prinsloo fled because he was being unfairly prosecuted and persecuted.
Visser's advocate, Johan Engelbrecht, said she was convinced that her former fiancé wrote the email.
"She said to me, 'That is the style of Dirk Prinsloo, that is his vocabulary'," said Engelbrecht.
The advocate said both Visser and her mother live in fear that Prinsloo might return and kill one of them.
The couple had been on trial for an array of sex crimes when Prinsloo skipped bail and fled the country in 2006.
He remains on the run despite being on Interpol's red list.
Despite both the NPA and Interpol promising they would respond to queries on Prinsloo's email by Monday afternoon neither had said a word.
Interpol would only say that it was very serious about finding Prinsloo who was on the run for more than two years now.
Visser has told the court in graphic detail how Prinsloo forced her to take part in sexual acts with other women and under-aged girls.
