Human Settlements Minister Tokyo Sexwale was to spend Monday
night in the strife-torn informal settlement of Diepsloot, north of
Johannesburg, the SABC reported.
It said he was doing this to get a better understanding of the
living conditions of the people there.
Sexwale's department had set up a makeshift office in the area
for overnight for queries.
Diepsloot had in recent weeks experienced violent service
delivery protests.
Residents in parts of the settlement resorted to the action
after rumours that they would be moved to make way for the
installation of water and sewerage pipes.
Sexwale was scheduled to brief a special Cabinet meeting chaired
by Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe on Tuesday, the SABC
reported.
The city of Johannesburg had again urged Diepsloot residents to
accept the need for their planned relocation.
