Two people were killed and two others were injured in a hit and run incident in Vosloorus on Friday, Ekurhuleni metro police said.

Spokesperson Kobeli Mokheseng said the driver of a white Nissan sedan allegedly lost control of his vehicle, ploughing into a pedestrian, and kept driving, hitting another three people while fleeing.

The two injured pedestrians, aged between 18 and 30, were receiving treatment at the Natalspruit Hospital while two others, aged 16 and 38 died after the crash.

The metro police accident reconstruction unit was investigating the cause of the accident and the SA Police were attending to the alleged hit and run.

A case of culpable homicide has been opened at the Vosloorus police station.
