A six-year-old girl was left critically injured after a pole fell on her while she was playing in a garden in Amanzimtoti, Kwazulu-Natal paramedics said on sunday.

Netcare 911 spokesperson Chris Botha said the girl was amongst a group of children playing in a garden at a block of flats in Beach Road, Amanzimtoti in the early evening.

"A concrete garden light pole fell over and hit...[the] little girl on the head causing critical injuries."

The girl was rushed to hospital and stabilised before being transported for further treatment at a facility offering neurosurgery.
