The DA's outright majority in the Western Cape slipped on Saturday morning, according to preliminary results released by the Independent Electoral Commission.

Just after 10am on Saturday, the Democratic Alliance had 48.76 percent of the vote.

In the early hours of Saturday, the party's lead had stood at 51.46 percent of the vote.

The latest results show the ANC with 32.87 percent of the vote and the Congress of the People with 9.05 percent.

The Independent Democrats obtained 4.51 percent of the vote.

When asked by Sapa for verification of the DA's current status on Saturday morning, provincial electoral officer Courtney Sampson urged the media to wait until final figures were available.

"They are still being verified."
