A Limpopo man was arrested for robbery at the weekend after he
allegedly offered people colddrink laced with drugs after they
withdrew cash, Beeld reported on Monday.
The 64-year-old man would allegedly approach a person who had
just withdrawn money from an automated teller machine (ATM) and
offer a sip from his cooldrink, which was laced with an unknown
drug.
When the person fell asleep from the drug, he and his accomplice
would then rob the man or woman of their cash.
Superintendent Mohale Ramatseba said the two men also sometimes
posed as policemen or bank employees.
They would tell people the money they had just withdrawn was
suspected to be stolen money.
The person would then hand the money over to them so that they
could "check" if it was indeed stolen.
The pair was believed to have made thousands of rands with their
schemes.
One man was arrested in Marble Hall at the weekend while the
second man was still on the run.
