Forty-six people were arrested for allegedly breaking windows and doors to occupy RDP houses in Marlboro near Alexandra, Johannesburg police said on Saturday.

Inspector Moses Maphakela said police received information from the community that people were breaking into new RDP flats around 11am on Friday.

On arrival, Bramley police discovered people had broken windows and doors to gain entry into the flats.

Police arrested the 46 people for house breaking. They would appear before the Wynberg Magistrate's Court on Monday.

The flats were newly-built and would be handed over to designated people after they were completed, Maphakela said.
