Six men are still at large after allegedly attacking five people in two separate house robberies in Thabong, Free State police said on Sunday.

"In both incidents, six unknown men armed with firearms and crowbars beat up the occupants of two houses before stealing their belongings," said Sergeant Malebo Khosana.

One of the robbers wore a police uniform without a name tag.

On Thursday at 10.30pm, the men entered a house in Orange Grove by claiming to be police officers. They assaulted the three men and the homeowner's wife with crowbars, bound them with cable ties and ransacked the house. They took R3000 in cash and a cellphone.

Before leaving the robbers shoved the woman into the boot of their BMW.

They gained access to the second house, in nearby John Cook Crescent, by breaking down the front door.

"They found a man, his wife and their six-year-old daughter sleeping. They woke them up and demanded money from the husband. When the husband said that he had no money, they assaulted him and his wife with the butts of their guns and the crowbars."

They bound with wife with cable ties and fled with R1900 in cash and a cellphone. They took the woman in the boot of their BMW back to her home.

"They took her out of the boot and threw her onto the road outside her house.

"We are doing everything in our power to catch them and will not rest until we do. This is an act of terrorism," said Khosana.

The man in the police uniform was described as being tall and slender, one of his alleged accomplices was of medium height with a "big tummy".
