
Taxi bosses from at least 18 associations will meet on Friday to discuss a way forward concerning the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system.
Operators held a mass meeting in Soweto on Wednesday. They vowed to embark on violent demonstrations if the BRT programme gets the green light.
The United Taxi Association Forum insists President Jacob Zuma promised to suspend the programme while he was electioneering for the African National Congress.
Michael More, who has been a taxi driver for several years, believes many jobs are on the line.
"We are concerned because it will not accommodate everybody who is within the taxi industry. We are hoping at least the government will listen to us," said More.
