Johannesburg police foiled a bank robbery in Greenside on Thursday when a security guard became suspicious of two men who entered a Nedbank.
"Two men drove to a Nedbank situated in Greenway Street at 11am, with their accomplices in the car," spokesperson Captain Cynthia Magoai said.
Two of them entered the bank and made a deposit into an account.
"That is when the security guard became suspicious and called police."
When police arrived, the men waiting in the car fled the scene. Upon questioning, it was found that both men were wanted for a number of bank robberies, including a recent one in Primrose, Germiston.
"They were arrested at the bank. We believe that they were scouting the bank before committing the crime. This could have been a big one."
The other men were still at large.
