Teacher unions say educators found guilty of sex crimes against pupils are adding to the dysfunctional nature of South Africa’s education system.

The South African Council for Educators says such teachers will be named and shamed on the internet and in the government gazette.

This will be done to prevent them from trying to re-enter the profession.

The SACE says it has investigated over a thousand teachers for sexual misconduct since 2000.

SADTU President Thobile Ntola says the union will back any move by the council to root out unscrupulous teachers.
