Two men were arrested for allegedly "selling" SA police and municipality jobs in Nelspruit on Tuesday, Mpumalanga police said.
The two claimed to be working in the police's human resources department and were found in possession of SAPS forms, Mbombela municipality job application forms, three CVs and job adverts from City Press newspaper, Captain Leonard Hlathi said.
The men would call job seekers, inform them they had received their applications and ask them to bring R3000 in cash along to a meeting with them. Police set a trap and arrested them.
In a similar case also in Nelspruit, police received 32 complaints between Monday and Tuesday about people "selling" SA National Defence Force jobs.
The people were distributing pamphlets promising people jobs, bearing the army's emblem and the South African flag.
"They claimed that government planned to ensure that there are 30 000 combat officers by 2010."
People who responded to the adverts were sent text messages telling them to deposit R200 into a bank account. They were told to wait for a bus outside the Promenade Hotel in Nelspruit on Monday, but the bus never arrived.
"We are calling on people not to adhere to any call or pamphlet calling them to apply for jobs in exchange for cash. No job is for sale," said Hlathi.
Got something to say?
