Gauteng police management on Friday threw their weight behind newly appointed Lyttelton Station Commander, Director Vuyokazi Ndebele who appeared in the Parys Magistrate's Court this week on 55 charges of fraud.
These relate to alleged irregularities regarding toll fees.
Ndebele was in the news earlier this week, after she replaced a team of experienced crime fighters with novices.
"Management has full confidence in the member and the pending case will not jeorpadise any service rendered to the community," said the police's Julia Claasen.
Claasen said even though Ndebele faced a disciplinary enquiry and criminal charges, she remained innocent until proven guilty.
Ndebele started at the Lyttelton Police Station last week and one of her first actions was to replace the trio task team, which concentrated on armed robberies, house robberies and hijackings.
This move saw crime increase significantly in the area.
