The SABC said it would investigate how a Special Assignment documentary about political satire made its way into the hands of the Mail & Guardian.
The newspaper posted the programme on its website on Tuesday and although the version on the web was not a final edit it was downloaded over 3500 times in the first two hours after it was posted.
The SABC pulled the show moments before it was set to be broadcast in April. It again pulled the program on Tuesday night, claiming it did not have proper permission to air it.

Controversial cartoonist Jonathan Shapiro, commonly know as Zapiro, was featured in the documentary and said the Mail and Guardian scored a goal for media freedom.
"I think it's important that people protest against this and I also think it's important that the good people from the SABC are being supported," said Shapiro.
The cartoonist is well known for drawing a caricature of President Jacob Zuma with a shower head attached to him to represent controversial statements he made during his rape trial.
Zuma was acquitted of the rape charge but during the trial he told the court he had sex with an HIV positive woman and then took a shower.
