Prince Sifiso Zulu's legal team on Wednesday brought forensic expert Dr David Klatzow from Cape Town to help in his hit-and-run case.

Klatzow, who has been involved in a number of high-profile forensic investigations, was with Zulu's legal team in the Durban Regional Court on Wednesday.

Klatzow listened attentively to State witness Petros Prinsloo of Vodacom, who explained how the cellphone company's towers capture the location of every cellphone call.

The State alleges police commissioner Bheki Cele, then KwaZulu-Natal community safety MEC, called his friend, businessman Zulu on the night Zulu's car was involved in a hit-and-run accident. His BMW X5 crashed into a Mitsubishi double-cab bakkie on March 29, 2008. Two members of the Soul's Harbour Ministries Church were killed and 10 others injured.

The State alleges Zulu was driving the car and that it jumped a red traffic light. Zulu maintains he was not behind the wheel when the accident occurred.

After listening to Prinsloo's evidence, Zulu's lawyer, Robert Liversage asked the court to postpone the case, saying they needed time to examine the data presented by Prinsloo.

Liversage said the postponement would also help Zulu's legal team get information from Vodacom.

"We subpoenaed Vodacom to give us the... call records, but they have not come back to us. We believe that this matter should be postponed so that we will be able to get the records we need."

The start of Zulu's trial was delayed by more than an hour because an interpreter was not available. The case was scheduled to start at 9am, but got underway at 10.40am.

Magistrate Thomas Nhleko postponed the case to December 1.
