SABC management and Communications Minister Siphiwe Nyanda are expected to meet on Monday ahead of a meeting with labour unions, City Press reported.

"We will meet the minister to discuss the SABC's operations, and the current financial crisis might come up," the broadcaster's spokesperson Kaizer Kganyago was quoted as saying in the Sunday newspaper.

Management was expected to meet with unions on Tuesday to discuss wage increases.

The SABC was offering its workers a staggered increase of seven percent in June and 1.5 percent in July. Workers wanted 12.2 percent backdated to 1 April.

The Communication Workers' Union, the Media Workers' Association of SA and the Broadcast, Electronic Media and Allied Workers' Union are represented at the broadcaster.

CWU's Gauteng chairman Tommy Morudu was quoted as saying: "We have been nursing the situation for quite some time now. We are workers with the SABC's interests at heart, but management is not coming to the party."
