A new organisation representing school governing bodies has been formed in Bloemfontein, a spokesperson said on Sunday.
The National Congress of School Governing Bodies would be a co-ordinating structure representing school governing bodies nationally, said president of the body's national interim committee, Hlobo Monokoane.
This followed a meeting over the weekend in Bloemfontein, which led to the national interim committee.
"The first task of the men and woman elected to the national interim committee would be to form provincial structures and ultimately organise the national elective conference."
He said the meeting decided on a national strategic plan for the year. This included uniting school governing bodies under one banner, initiating and co-ordinating programmes and campaigns as well as training and providing guidance to school governing bodies.
Deputy-president of the new organisation, Rankoe Kgomotso from the Northern Cape, said they would primarily focus on helping school governing bodies.
"The election of school governing bodies is starting soon and you know at many schools these structures are not working or functioning and we want to help them," she said.
Others elected to the interim national committee are: Moleme Thekegelo – secretary-general from the North West province, Dlamini Danisile (Free State), Moabelo Boitumelo (Northern Cape) and Motloung Thabang (Free State).
