A charge of drunken driving, alternatively reckless driving, was withdrawn on Tuesday against Barbara Gibbs, mother of Proteas cricketer Herschelle Gibbs.

Because the investigation had not yet been completed since her arrest in March, the court refused to prosecute her. A postponement would have enabled the investigating officer to complete the investigation.

Gibbs' appearance in the Athlone Magistrate's Court was a sequel to a motor collision on 14 March.

However, she was not taken for a blood test as she should have been.

Because the postponement was refused the state had no option but to withdraw the charge.
