The man who raped and robbed a woman in Lawley, south of Johannesburg was sentenced to 25 years imprisonment in the Vereeniging Magistrate's Court on Wednesday, Gauteng police said.

Oupa Victor Moshebi robbed two women of their cellphones and jewellery at gunpoint and raped one of them in 18 October 2008.

"The other woman managed to run away," said Constable Edwin Ntsheo.

The 39-year-old Motshebi was convicted by the same court last month.

He was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment for rape and 15 years for armed robbery with five years suspended.
