Twenty eight people were injured in three different accidents in Durban on Wednesday, paramedics said.

Nine people were injured when a minibus taxi ploughed into two pedestrians and a car in the CBD, ER24's Derrick Banks said.

"It is believed that the driver lost control after his minibus taxi had a mechanical problem on the corner of Grey and Pine streets."

The vehicle struck two pedestrians, dragging one of them, and then hit a small car. Two people were seriously injured, seven sustained minor injuries.

In another accident, 18 people were injured when the minibus taxi they were in overturned on Inanda Road, Netcare 911's Jeff Wicks said.

Among those seriously injured were two pregnant women.

"It is thought that the driver of the taxi lost control of his vehicle and veered from the roadway, rolling repeatedly before coming to rest at the bottom of an embankment."

Paramedics found the wounded at the bottom of the embankment.

In another accident, a pedestrian was critically injured when he was struck by a car at the intersection of Umhlanga Rocks Drive and the M41.

"Two cars collided in the intersection, the smash sending one of the cars spinning out of control and striking a man walking at the roadside. The man sustained head and spinal injuries as well as multiple fractures," Wicks said.
