The Somali Association of South Africa claims that tensions between locals and foreigners in Tsakane on the East Rand have been put to rest.
Residents looted three Somali-owned stores last Wednesday after a South African man was shot and wounded, allegedly by a Somali man, during an altercation which then sparked outrage among community members.
Two other shops run by foreign traders were also looted during the retaliation attack.
Members of the association intervened last week after several immigrants fled to their nearest police station in Tsakane for fear of their safety.
The association's Abdul Hassan said that while tempers were flaring the situation was being resolved.
"There was some dialogue between the community and some of our stake holders," said Hassan.
The incident has been dismissed as a sporadic attack. But it occurred in the wake of Somali traders in Gugulethu, Cape Town, claiming they received threatening letters warning them to leave the area within seven days.
