Sex crimes accused Dirk Prinsloo is expected to go on trial in two months time for allegedly attempting to rob a bank in the Republic of Belarus.

Prinsloo was arrested in the former Soviet republic earlier this month after he and two other men allegedly tried to force staff at a branch of the Belarus Bank to hand over money using a knife and a toy gun.

Belarus authorities have appointed an attorney and a translator to facilitate the case against Prinsloo.

The former advocate was formally charged with attempted bank robbery on Friday, and according to Belarus police he has already confessed to his role in the foiled heist.

Detectives in the eastern European country have turned the focus of their investigation into the possibility that Prinsloo committed other crimes during his stay.

If found guilty he could face a prison sentence of up to ten years after which he will likely be extradited to South Africa to face charges relating to a number of sex crimes.

He fled South Africa in 2006, while on trial on a host of sexual charges. It is alleged he and his girlfriend, Cezanne Visser (also a former advocate), forced a number of women and young girls to take part in sexual acts.
