The 12-year-old American boy who was diagnosed with swine flu has fully recovered.

He flew into Johannesburg from Atlanta last week and was the first confirmed case of the H1N1 virus in the country.

He was discharged from a Pretoria hospital after two days and had been recovering at his family's home.

The National Institute for Communicable Disease's Frew Benson says he now no longer has the virus.

"The child is well, he's 100 percent over the influenza," says Benson.
