An ex-metro cop and another man were arrested for allegedly impersonating metro police in Glenridge, south of Johannesburg, on Thursday, police said.

"A female officer who was wearing her civilian clothes arrested two men for posing as cops along N12, near Lenasia," said Senior Superintendent Wayne Minnaar.

Three men dressed in metro police uniforms stopped a white Honda on Protea Road in Glenridge.

The officer became suspicious and approached them.

She asked them to identify themselves, but they jumped into a blue Golf and fled.

The officer called for backup and the men were stopped.

"It was discovered that one of the men had been dismissed from the metro police department for corruption."

The two were to appear in the Protea Magistrate's Court on Friday to face charges of impersonation of a metro cop officials, said Minnaar.
