Thirty-one people were injured when their bus crashed into the back of a truck on Maydon Road in Umbilo near Durban on Tuesday evening, KwaZulu-Natal parpamedics said.

Netcare 911 spokesperson Jeff Wicks said the bus was transporting construction workers when its brakes failed while it was going down a hill. It crashed into the back of the truck.

All the workers, as well as the driver, were being treated and stabilised on scene around 10pm in preparation to be transported to the Netcare St Augustine's Hospital, Wicks said.
