Cope youth leader Anele Mda will retain leaderhsip of the Congress of the People Youth Movement, inspite of currently being suspended, the party's youth league said in Johannesburg on Thursday.

General secretary Malusi Booi told a media briefing that Mda remained a member of Parliament and Cope member.

"She cannot be active in any other leadership roles pending disciplinary processes," Booi said.

Mda was suspended after the party's congress working committee received a complaint about Mda from Deputy General Secretary Deidre Carter about racist and sexist remarks.

This news comes amid claims of infighting within the group's youth wing.

"You need to respect the rights of the two people so that you allow a process, to give it time," said Cope's acting youth leader Thabiso Tefo.
