The two men were arrested after Gauteng traffic police officer Simon Sebe was gunned down in Kliprivier, Vereeniging on Wednesday.
Sebe, attached to Gauteng traffic police's anti-hijack unit, had stopped a red new model VW Polo on the R558 near the Heidelberg turn-off when he was attacked.
Two of three men inside the vehicle tried to disarm Sebe. He was shot dead during the scuffle.
The men entered their vehicle and drove off.
The two suspected robbers were arrested in Ekurhuleni 2am on Friday after a tip-off by community members.
"The two arrested suspects were found in possession of items positively linked to the crime," Mosunkutu said.
He congratulated the police for the arrest adding, "I am confident that the rest will be arrested soon to face the might of the law."
