Eastern Cape police arrested a 32-year-old man who feel asleep after breaking into a house in Uitenhage, police said on Saturday.

Superintendent Priscilla Naidu said the owner of the house had just arrived when he realised that the domestic quarters' lights were on at around 6.30pm on Friday.

"He went to investigate because the rooms were only used as storage. He was shocked to find the place in total disarray, with clothes all over the place and a man fast asleep on the bed," said Naidu.

When the man could not explain his presence in the house, the owner phoned the police who arrested him.

He would appear in the Uitenhage Magistrate's Court on Monday, said Naidu.
