"The driver picked up two men who were hitch-hiking near Unitas Park on Tuesday at midnight. They pointed a firearm at him and took control of the [Toyota] Quantum he was driving," said Sergeant Mmako Mophiring.
They then forced him to drink an alcoholic substance.
He fell unconscious and they dumped him on a plot between Bethlehem and Reitz.
It was believed the car was taken to Lesotho.
The driver was later rescued by paramedics and taken to Phekolong Hospital in Bohlokong.
"At the time he couldn't even remember his car registration number."
The taxi driver had been discharged from hospital and was back in Vereeniging.
Anyone with information that could lead to the recovery of the vehicle could call CrimeStop on 08600-10111, said Mophiring.
Got something to say?
