A woman was in a critical condition after being hit by two trains in Centurion on Friday, Pretoria paramedics reported.

"The 50-year-old woman was trying to cross the railway line in Centurion on the Irene bridge when she was hit by a train," said Netcare 911 spokesperson Chris Botha.

The woman sustained minor injuries in this accident and paramedics were called to the scene. They were about 20 metres from where she was lying when another train, coming from the opposite direction, slammed into her.

"Her leg was amputated and she sustained serious injuries to the head," said Botha.

She was rushed to hospital in a critical condition.
