Three men claiming to be officer tried to take delivery of drugs at OR Tambo International Airport, a narcotics detection expert told the High Court in Johannesburg on Wednesday.

Wonder Capp was testifying in the trial of three senior West Rand officers who were facing 13 charges that included drug dealing, fraud, racketeering and defeating the ends of justice.

Senior Superintendent Dumisani Jwara, Captain Victor Jwili and Captain Landro Mokgosani have pleaded not guilty to all charges.

Capp told the court that on 7 October 2007, she and her narcotics detector dog discovered cocaine hidden in sewing tables that had arrived on a flight from Sao Paulo in Brazil.

She said shortly after having fetched the sewing tables she was approached by three men, one of whom introduced himself as "London", who said they were from the West Rand Organised Crime Unit.

She said "London" claimed the West Rand Organised Unit had been waiting for the drugs.

She said the three men, who were in civilian clothes and wore police cards on their chests and around their necks, did not produce any documentation that supported their alleged claim to the drugs.

Capp said the three men left the scene immediately after other officers confirmed that the OR Tambo Organised Crime Unit was on its way to collect the drugs.

Asked by the State prosecutor if she could identify the three men if she saw them again, Capp responded that she would not be able to do so.

The case continues.
