A Durban man appeared in the Umlazi Magistrate's court on Friday for wounding his nine-year-old stepson.

David Majola, 22, was charged with possession of an illegal firearm, attempted murder and arson, said Inspector Bonginkosi Thabethe.

He said Majola was accused of burning the child's mother's house before shooting him.

Thabethe said Majola would bring a bail application on November 25.

He said Majola went to the boy's school where he asked a teacher if he could speak to the grade four pupil, who identified him as his father.

Majola and the boy left the classroom. He was later heard screaming after being shot.
