A man was shot dead while another shot himself in the groin during a robbery in Pretoria, police said on Saturday. Three men entered a house in the Queenswood suburb of Pretoria at about 8.00pm on Friday.

They held up the occupants of the house and stole a gun, cellphones, jewellery and money.

A family member shot one of the robbers in the head and he died on the scene, while his accomplices fled on foot.

One of them was caught by a security company in the area and held them in a car.

While he was trying to take out a gun which was he was hiding in his pants he shot himself in the groin.

He was later rushed to hospital under police guard and was charged with house robbery, possession of an unlicensed firearm and possession of stolen items.

The third suspect was still at large, said Weilbach.
