The victims were inside the domestic worker's room when it was set alight on Friday afternoon and police are investigating the possibility that the incident was linked to a love triangle.
Police are also investigating a case of murder and attempted murder after one of the burn victims — a woman — died of her injures during the weekend.
The police's Eugene Opperman said this was a challenging case as the only surviving adult witness was not able to confirm what happened: "That frustrates our investigation considerably because we cannot speak to the man at this stage."
Netcare 911's Nick Dollman said paramedics were told the attack was an armed robbery: "There were allegations made by the victims directly to the paramedics."
Authorities are also investigating why police arrived on the scene almost two hours after the incident happened.
ADT security guards were the first to arrive at the scene.
When Eyewitness News contacted the security company, officials said they would meet with officials on Tuesday to discuss the case but would not be drawn on what time police were identified about the incident.
