A woman was shot and seriously injured in an attempted hijacking at a filling station in Pinetown on Tuesday afternoon, KwaZulu-Natal paramedics said.

Netcare 911 spokesperson Jeff Wicks said the incident happened at a Caltex filling station on Caversham Road around 5pm.

"The woman was shot in her abdomen and arm and was treated by paramedics on scene," said Wicks.

She was transported by ambulance to Westville Hospital in a serious, but stable condition, he said.
