Three licence examiners accused of fraudulently issuing driver licences were released on R4000 bail in the Piet Retief Magistrate's Court on Wednesday, Mpumalanga police said.

Thulani Mambane (38) Johannes Swart (55) and Doreen Mabizela (34) were ordered to be back in court on 4 January 2010, said Captain Leonard Hlathi.

The three were arrested at work on Tuesday following investigations by police, he said.

"The officials, between 12 October and 13 November issued 20 fraudulent licences to the public."
