Two people were killed when a truck hit a car on the Hans Dettman Highway near Pinetown on Wednesday, paramedics said.

ER24 spokesperson Derrick Banks said the accident happened around 7.40 pm on Wednesday.

"It is uncertain exactly what transpired. However both vehicles ended up overturning with the truck crushing the motor vehicle in the process," Banks said.

Emergency teams treated the truck driver at the scene. Both the occupants of the vehicle died on the scene.
