The Judicial Service Commission has confirmed that Judge John Hlophe will learn his fate on Monday, however the South African public may have to wait until Tuesday to hear the news.

The JSC's disciplinary committee decided on Saturday whether it believes there is prima facie evidence that the Western Cape Judge President interfered with Constitutional Court cases relating to President Jacob Zuma.

But, for the moment it is refusing to make public its decision.

The longer the wait the more speculation is increasing that the commission is going to let Hlophe off the hook because its disciplinary committee chair, Judge Lex Mpati, has said the full reasons for its choice will be announced at the same time as its decision.

That has led cynics to presume it is using the time to make sure its reasons are legally correct and will play well in the court of public opinion.

But, it is still possible the committee has gone the other way and intends ensuring Hlophe cannot take them to court again.
