Durban commuters could be left stranded after a bus operator gave the eThekwini municipality one month to finalise its contract, or it would pull out, The Mercury newspaper reported on Tuesday.

Transnat Africa CEO Mike Jesserman said it was given the contract to run the service four months ago.

"Three months down the line we are still finalising the terms and conditions of the contract. All of that should have been finalised three months ago," he was quoted as saying.

It had sent a letter to the city and the provincial transport department outlining its grievances. Transnat would meet with the city officials on Wednesday to discuss the matter.
