The Western Cape Liquor Board has suspended the liquor licence of a Still Bay restaurant owner after complaints that included patrons having sex under a nearby carport.

The province's department of economic development said on Wednesday that the decision followed testimony from residents of the Southern Cape town.

They had claimed that Lynette Cronje, owner of the Matchbox Restaurant, was operating a pub on the same premises without board permission.

"They also complained about loud music being played from the pub, despite licence conditions that prohibited this — and about unruly patrons causing a nuisance to people living in the area when they left the pub.

"The board even heard testimony that a resident found patrons of the pub having intercourse under a carport of a nearby house."
