It is all systems go for Johannesburg's Bus Rapid Transit system which is due to be launched on Sunday morning and will begin limited operations in the city from Monday.

The BRT aims to revamp and integrate bus and taxi transport systems but it has been met by stiff opposition from taxi operators who claims it threatens their livelihood and takes over routes which the taxi industry has spent decades developing.

The South African National Taxi Council?s Philip Taaibosch said while a proposed strike against the system has been called off the taxi industry has not finished its protest.
