A North West university professor and an Eskom engineer were
among 91 motorists arrested for drunken driving in the North West
province at the weekend.
Provincial public safety spokesperson Lesiba Kgwele said traffic
officers screened 407 drivers for drunken driving. The arrested
motorists were above the legal alcohol limit of 0.2.
"Not even the heavy weekend rains dampened the determination of
the drunken driving special operations team that set up 17 roving
roadblocks in the area.
"The operation will be intensified with zero tolerance for
drunken and reckless driving over the coming festive period," said
North West MEC of public safety Howard Yawa.
