An expert on occult behaviour will testify in the South Gauteng High Court on Tuesday, ahead of sentencing in Morné Harmse's murder trial.

The teenager, dubbed the samurai sword killer, murdered 16-year-old Jacques Pretorius and attacked three others at Nic Diederichs Technical High School in Krugersdorp last August.

A psycho-social report presented to the court on Monday revealed that Harmse is a lonely and empty young man, whose mental age is far younger than his chronological one.

He was described as person who lives in a fantasy world and did not fit in at school.

Social worker Annette Vergeer told the court that Harmse should spend time in a juvenile prison where he will get the counselling he needs to rehabilitate.

Several witnesses, including the mother of the teenager who was killed, testified in court.

The woman broke down as she spoke about her grief.

Harmse wrote a letter of apology to his victim’s family in which he explained that he knew what he did was wrong.
