Salvors expressed concern on Thursday the planned removal of more than 600 tons of fuel from a ship that ran aground near Bloubergstrand could be hampered by bad weather expected over the weekend.

The Seli 1 ran aground in stormy weather conditions on Monday.

The vessel was also unable to be refloated because of structural damage.

"We're expecting a low intensity cold front later this week which may just hamper the commencement of fuel removal operations, but as soon as good sea and weather conditions prevail, we'll be able to commence," said salvage company Smit Amandla's Claire Gomes.
