The Democratic Alliance warned the Defence Ministry to urgently re-think its appointment of Paul Ngobeni as a legal advisor.

Eyewitness News reported earlier this year that Ngobeni skipped bail in the United States and owes the bail bond company $5000.

He has been a staunch backer of Western Cape Judge President John Hlophe.

The DA's David Maynier said the Public Protector must intervene.

"We cannot have a situation where we have ordinary soldiers in the Department of Defence, who we require to have a high level of integrity, while the minister's legal adviser is not expected to meet that standard."
