The Congress of the People has suspended its controversial youth leader, Anele Mda.

The party's Congress Working Committee met on Monday, to discuss a complaint laid by Deputy General Secretary Deidre Carter.

Mda allegedly accused Carter of being a "token white stupid bitch" after a Cope meeting earlier this month.

She has now been suspended pending a disciplinary process.

"The comment has a racial and sexist undertone and we felt that it will be in the interest of the party and its image that we do not allow any of our leaders and members to make comments of that nature," said Cope General Secretary Charlotte Lobe.
