US government facilities will reopen on Friday, after they were shut down because of an unspecified security threat on Tuesday.
The State Department said it received a credible threat against its facilities and notified its citizens to remain vigilant in the vicinity of government buildings.
Customers who had made appointments at the US Embassy in Pretoria, or at Consulates in Sandton, Cape Town and Durban have been urged to make new arrangements.
National Police Commissioner Bheki Cele announced on Tuesday that the situation was under control.
